Emotional Transformation through Dru Yoga

There is a very old story, from the Far East, which talks of an ambitious rat, who goes to God and asks Him to allow him to become a human being. It is said that the Great Spirit grants him his wish, and the rat is born in to the world of people.

It is said that he spent several lifetimes as a human being, but finally after quite a bit of experimentation and a great deal of traumas and challenges experiencing the extremes of emotions like fear, anger, greed and hatred (which is of course the dance of life), he goes back to God and says, “please, please, please, make me a rat again, because being a human is just too hard and I am just not cut out for it”.

How many of us can relate to this poor little rat? How few of us were raised with a good preparation to transform in our human challenges and deepen our expression of compassion during conflict?

Dru Yoga, instead of avoiding the challenging emotional part of human life; it faces it and transforms it with grace and ease. With regular practise, and attention to the philosophy and attitude, Dru Yoga can bring about dramatic changes; changes which can happen in weeks.

Every dru class includes mudras, affirmations, postures, sequences, pranayamas , and meditations with a general or specific theme of positive change. This involves every level of our being, (the Koshas), the aspects of us which need to cooperate to achieve a transformation. Thoughts and words are very powerful, but not enough on their own. The intent of true change must be expressed through all our channels: the physical body, emotion, breath, energy, thought, and consciousness of higher self.

The more we practice the more we notice a shift in energy, attitude and ability to flow. There is more movement in life with clearer intent, more sense of confidence and trust.

The spiritual bonus is that the less we get tangled up in emotional drama, through knowing there is another way, the easier we can follow the heart and be the stillness, the joyful, loving state of meditation.
